OLD SACRAMENTO

HISTORY A BLOCK AWAY

Old Sacramento is the riverfront historic district, with Gold Rush-era buildings, cobblestone streets, and horse-drawn carriages. It’s home to numerous museums, including the Sacramento History Museum and the state Railroad Museum, which offers excursion train rides. Souvenir shops sell T-shirts, movie memorabilia, and antiques, and there are several upscale restaurants and a few bars popular with the college crowd.

CROCKER ART MUSEUM

The Crocker Art Museum, formerly the E. B. Crocker Art Gallery, founded in 1885, is the oldest art museum west of the Mississippi River. Located in Sacramento, California, the Museum holds one of the state’s premier collections of Californian art.

CALIFORNIA STATE RAILROAD MUSEUM

CONNECTING CALIFORNIA TO THE NATION

The California State Railroad Museum (CSRM) in Old Sacramento is the world-class tribute to the role of the “iron horse” in connecting California to the rest of the nation. The museum features 21 lavishly restored locomotives and cars, some dating back to 1862.

Sacramento is home to the California State Capitol, a notable landmark and the heart of the state’s leadership.

The building houses the chambers of the California State Legislature, made up of the California State Assembly and the California State Senate, along with the office of the Governor of California.
